Lotus UK and Ramblers Worldwide Holidays present ‘A Taste of Andorra’

Together with the lovely team at Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, Lotus UK organised ‘A Taste of Andorra’ evening at the National Geographic Store in London Knightsbridge on 4th February, to give some of Ramblers’ most loyal customers a wonderful insight into the tiny European country.

Keen ramblers from all over the UK battled the wet and windy February evening (and threat of an impending tube strike) to make their way to the unique venue, located directly opposite the bright lights of Harrods. The evening started with drinks and nibbles at the back of the store, where guests chatted to fellow Ramblers customers and shared stories of previous walking holidays.

Tony Lock, MD at Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, began proceedings by welcoming everyone to the National Geographic Store and excitingly announcing that attendees would receive a discount on purchases made in the store that evening.  Tony then welcomed to the stage Joaquim Tomas, Commercial Director at Andorra Turisme, who had come all the way from the ‘Country of the Pyrenees’ especially for the evening. Joaquim gave a fascinating account of the Principality of Andorra, talking about the country’s diverse wildlife, beautiful flowers, thrilling outdoor pursuits (such as canyoning and via ferrata) and interesting Romanesque culture.  Useful pub-quiz facts included 90% of Andorra is covered in forest and it has the world’s longest life expectancy!

The mic was then passed to Simon Cane, one of Ramblers’ most cherished and experienced tour guides, who has been leading walking holidays in Andorra for many years. Accompanied by some great snapshots of walking groups that he’s led in Andorra, Simon talked about the type of terrain encountered on the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays trip to Andorra, describing it as similar to the Lake District.

National Geographic Store laid on a superb buffet and guests had the chance to chat to representatives from Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, Andorra Tursime and Lotus UK, as well as have a browse around the store. Ramblers Worldwide Holidays kindly offered a special discount off their ‘Hiking In Andorra’ tour for departures this summer, of which many guests also took advantage!

Ramblers’ ‘Hiking In Andorra’ holiday is a centre-based one or two week trip based in the Andorran town of Encamp.  With walks in the flower-strewn Incles Valley, the unspoiled UNESCO World Heritage site of Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley and a hike up Pic de Casamanya for views over the whole Principality, the tour is a great way to discover Andorra.

After hearing all about Andorra and the Ramblers Worldwide Holiday there, everyone at Lotus UK knows where they’ll be heading for an active adventure this summer!

Thanks must go to Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, Andorra Turisme and National Geographic Store for helping us to put on such a fantastic and interesting event.

See you on the mountains!
