Lotus UK clients scoop nominations for inaugural Family Traveller Awards

We are delighted that four Lotus UK clients have been shortlisted in the inaugural Family Traveller Awards. These include Guernsey for Best Domestic Destination For Families, Genoa for Best European City Break For Families, Andorra for Best Short Haul Destination For Families and Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza for Best Short Haul Accommodation For Families.

Here’s a summary of why we think our destinations work perfectly for families:

Guernsey

Guernsey has a microclimate, French road signs and an island vibe making it ideal for families looking for a holiday that feels abroad but without the distance. Exciting to reach on propeller plane or ferry, the island has enough to entertain the whole family with 39 beaches, 40 miles of coastline and activities from kayaking to rock climbing, available through kids clubs. Neatly contained within 24 square miles, there are no long driving distances and the laid back island atmosphere offers a safe environment for families. Beachfront self-catering cottages are available across the island, making family travel stress free.

Genoa

Genoa is Italy’s sixth largest city but doesn’t have the crowds of Venice or Rome making it perfect for families. From Europe’s largest aquarium to whale watching trips, the options are endless. From new to old, the modern port has a biosphere filled with colourful creatures and a panoramic lift offering 360 degree views of the city whilst the UNESCO Old Town is a labyrinth of narrow winding streets interspersed with palaces. Kids can look out for Christopher Columbus’ home! For a breath of fresh air funiculars reach up into the surrounding hills and offer spectacular views.

Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza

Now open for its second season, Europe’s first Hard Rock Hotel opened on Ibiza’s Playa d’en Bossa in May 2014 and has spurred the rise of the White Isle as a family destination. Among the five-star facilities at the beachside Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, there are two dedicated kids lounges - Roxity and Teen Spirit - featuring state-of-the-art games and chill-out zones, as well as a jam-packed activity calendar featuring a weekly ‘Be A Rockstar’ talent show, ‘Be A Popstar’ dance competition and Fender guitar tournament. Families also love its two swimming pools, playground, Rock Spa and great variety of cafes and restaurants, while Hard Rock’s iconic music memorabilia line the hotel walls. Staying true to its musical heritage, the hotel offers family friendly live music performances each week, including weekly parties in 2015 ‘Tinie Tempah’s Pool Party’ and ‘Children of the 80s’.

Andorra

Tucked between Spain and France, the Principality of Andorra, known as the ‘Country of the Pyrenees’, is the ultimate destination for active families to enjoy summer in the mountains. With 65 peaks over 2,000m high, the country’s rugged landscape, mountain lakes, steep valleys, and sub-Mediterranean climate offer endless opportunities for new activities, while there’s nature, history and culture to discover too. Andorra’s spectacular Pyrenean backdrop offers some of Europe’s most beautiful walks, while numerous mountain bike trails provide a thrilling way to explore the mountains. Adrenalin seekers won’t want to miss out on the host of other mountain sports on offer, including via ferrata, climbing, canyoning, zip wire and horse riding.
