World’s first Google Glass tourism promotion by The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel reaches over a million users

Lotus UK is pleased to announce that The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel in southwest Florida has achieved a technology first for tourism with a Google Glass campaign, which resulted in 1.3 million users generating 17.9 million social media impressions in four days.

From 6-8 September, five chosen Google Glass explorers visited the Fort Myers/Sanibel Island area to document their local adventures using #FindYourIsland. There were a series of five challenges that highlighted the destination’s natural beauty, history, outdoors, art and culture and culinary offerings.

Google Glass are augmented reality spectacle frames with a built in camera, display, touchpad and microphone meaning that usual smart phone or computer functions can be carried out with a swipe of the touchpad or voice activation. This means that users can film, take pictures, Google search and upload to social media on the go.

Initial results from 4th-8th September have shown that 1.3 million users generated 17.9 million social media impressions. Over 6GB of #FindYourIsland data (video and images) was shared by Google Glass Explorers and there were over 7,000 entries in the Find Your Island #ThroughGlass Sweepstakes.
